Phobia and Fear Therapy in Swindon and Online.

A Phobia is an irrational fear of something that is unlikely to cause harm. The word itself comes from the Greek word “Phobos,” which means “fear” or “horror.”

When someone has a phobia, they experience intense fear of a certain object or situation. Phobias are different from regular fears because they cause significant distress, possibly interfering with life at home, work, or school. Its hard to understand a phobia unless you suffer with one The phrase “don’t be silly” or “don’t worry about it” are heard all too commonly. But for those experiencing the Phobia, it is far from a silly reaction.

Phobias and the effects of trauma are made far worse when you have high levels of anxiety. The first part of the recovery process, is to reduce anxiety to a manageable level. This allows us to gain intellectual control over our thoughts.
Once this has been managed, which usuall takes around 3 sessions, we then tackle the phobia or traumatic memory. I use a variety of different methods depending on the specific issue that you may have, all of which are methods developed and adapted from Neuro Lingustic Programming research or NLP as it is known.
Everything is done in a relaxed environment and at no point will you have to physically be exposed to your fear. The final session reinforces the process and enables you to visualise your preferred outcome when you are faced with your old phobia or fear.
You should allow at least 6 sessions for most fears, trauma and phobias. More complex trauma or PTSD may take more.

Common Fears and Phobias

  • Fears related to animals (spiders, dogs, insects, snakes, wasps etc )
  • Fears related to the natural environment (heights, thunder, darkness, lightning, water, closed spaces, being outdoors etc )
  • Fears related to blood, injury, or medical issues (injections, broken bones, falls, dentist or doctors appointments etc )
  • Fears related to specific situations (flying, riding an elevator, driving, meetings, public speaking etc )
  • other (fear of choking, loud noises, drowning etc )
