Acrophobia the Fear of Heights
Acrophobia is a type of anxiety disorder that is characterised by an intense fear of heights.
People with acrophobia may experience a variety of symptoms when they are in high places, including dizziness, nausea, sweating, rapid heartbeat, and shortness of breath. In some cases, people with acrophobia may even have a panic attack.
Acrophobia is one of the most common phobias, affecting an estimated 5% of the population. It is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Some people may be more likely to develop acrophobia if they have a family history of anxiety disorders or if they have experienced a traumatic event involving heights.
Most of my clients feel that the fear of heights requires around 5 sessions to overcome. I will use a variety of techniques to reduce the fear easily and without any exposure to the fear itself.
