Hypnotherapy for Children & Young People
Ages 10 to 18
Growing up today isn't easy — and sometimes young people need extra support to find their confidence, calm their worries, and feel like themselves again. I provide gentle, age‑appropriate hypnotherapy in Swindon, Cirencester, and across Wiltshire — helping young minds thrive.
Why Young People Need Extra Support
From school pressures to social media, friendship changes to family shifts — today's young people face a world that feels louder and more demanding than ever before. They may not always have the words to say what they're feeling — but their minds and bodies show it.
Hypnotherapy works beautifully for young people because it speaks the language of their imagination — helping them process feelings, build resilience, and find their own inner strength without feeling "in trouble" or "broken."
Areas I Support — Age 10+
Every young person is different — but these are the challenges I help with most often:
How It Works — Gentle, Safe & Age‑Appropriate
Sessions for young people are designed especially for them — not just "adult therapy made shorter." We use language they understand, examples they relate to, and a pace that feels comfortable.
What Happens in a Session?
- ✅ First — we build trust. They decide what we talk about and when. They feel heard, not judged.
- ✅ Then — gentle relaxation. Guided visualisation, calming imagery — it feels like a peaceful daydream, not "treatment."
- ✅ Then — building strength. We plant positive ideas, confidence, calm — like seeds growing in their mind.
- ✅ Finally — tools they keep. Simple techniques they can use anywhere, anytime — at school, at home, with friends.
Parents or guardians are welcome to stay for the first part of sessions, or can wait nearby — whatever feels most reassuring. Progress updates are shared appropriately, balancing the young person's privacy with parental peace of mind.
What Parents Often Notice
Change doesn't always happen all at once — but these are the signs that things are shifting:
- ✨ More relaxed — shoulders drop, they breathe more easily
- ✨ Sleeping better — falls asleep faster, wakes happier
- ✨ Speaking up — sharing ideas, joining in, saying "I can"
- ✨ Resilience — bounces back faster from disappointments
- ✨ Trying new things — less fear of making mistakes
- ✨ Brighter mood — more laughter, less irritability
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — and actually, children and young people respond beautifully to hypnotherapy.
They are naturally more imaginative and open — which makes the process feel more like storytelling than therapy. The approach is gentle, ethical, and fully aligned with UK safeguarding standards. I am DBS checked and fully insured.
They remain in control throughout — never "under a spell," always able to speak, move, or stop at any time.
It depends on what feels right for them — and for you.
For younger ages or if they're nervous, a parent or guardian is welcome to stay for the first consultation and initial sessions. As they build confidence, they may prefer to come in alone — and that's a wonderful sign of growing independence.
We agree together what works best — and we can adjust it as we go.
Young people often respond quite quickly — here's a general guide:
- Specific worries / habits: 3–5 sessions
- Confidence / school anxiety: 4–6 sessions
- Complex or longer‑term issues: 6–10 sessions
Many parents notice a real difference within the first month. We review progress together — there's no fixed commitment beyond what feels right.
That's completely normal — and it doesn't mean it won't work.
Some young people are quiet at first — and that's okay. Hypnotherapy doesn't require them to talk about everything if they're not ready. The relaxation and positive suggestions still work powerfully — even without lots of conversation.
Relaxation also takes practice — especially if they're used to being busy or anxious. We go at their speed. Every session builds on the last.
Yes — where appropriate.
With consent, I can communicate with schools or pastoral staff to support progress — sharing techniques, approaches, or insights that help at school. This is always done respectfully and with permission from both the young person and their parent or guardian.
I can also provide guidance on how you can support them at home between sessions.
We meet — ideally you and your child together — and it's completely without obligation:
- ✅ We talk about what's been happening — from both points of view
- ✅ I explain how hypnotherapy works in simple, friendly terms
- ✅ Your child can ask anything — no question is too small
- ✅ We decide together if this feels like the right fit
- ✅ No commitment — just clarity and peace of mind
It usually takes about 45 minutes — and can be in person in Swindon or Cirencester, or online from home.
